Some areas have multiple options like Otaki Forks. Here you can tube, kayak, tramp, or take a short walk.

If gliding gets you going, a glide over the tops of the Tararua Range is a sought after experience.  Or how about a helicopter flight over Kapiti Island?

Try one or more of these great ways to spend your free time.

Adrenaline Paintball (Paraparaumu)

Romp through castles and tombstones, bridges and ponds, or blow up obstacles like a game of chess.

Gliding (Wellington Gliding Club, Paraparaumu Airport)

Just an hour from Wellington you can enjoy a variety of gliding activities.

The Kapiti Coast is a great location for trial flights with marvellous scenery and a combination of thermal, ridge, wave and convergence lift.

Captivate Adventures (Otaki River)

Just a stone's throw from Wellington or Palmerston North. Test yourself on the high ropes, rock climbing, abseiling or rafting (day or night).

4 Wheel Drive adventure (Kapiti 4 x Four)

Take a quad bike through native flora and fauna, or try your hand at archery, clay bird shooting, horse shoe pitching and more.

Heliworx (Paraparaumu)

A helicopter journey is one of the best ways to take in the local scenery, whether you fancy a quick flight over the Kapiti Coast, a longer itinerary over Kapiti Island and the Tararuas, or create your own route.

Tramping in the Tararua Forest Park (from Otaki)

Please note: tramping in the Tararuas can be challenging and all trampers must be prepared for all weather conditions, even for day walks, as the weather can change in an instant. Back-country hut tickets and hunting permits are available from i-SITES.

Contact our i-SITE Visitor Information Centres for more details including bus, train, and tide timetables; or the latest in other activities and events. They are located in Paraparaumu, and Otaki.
