via the Tourism Business Database
Over 300,000 New Zealanders, and more than 100,000 Australians have visited newzeland.com in the last month to find travel inspiration and experiences.
To give your business the opportunity to leverage Domestic and Australia Tourism New Zealand campaign activity, submit relevant and appealing deals and products that are closely aligned to the campaign messaging and audience.
Why should operators take up this opportunity?
Go to your business in Tourism New Zealand’s Tourism Business Database(opens in new window).
Click on Deals in the top navigation and Add a new deal
If you have more than one business you will need to select which business the listing is for and then the product listing it is for. From there, select the market language, deal type and deal details.
To help with loading deals here are some frequently asked questions.
Do I have to feature an offer for the full duration of a campaign?
No, as with any deal uploaded to newzealand.com (via the Tourism Business Database (TBD)), operators decide the offer time-period. For you to maximise the impact of your campaign deal, we recommend that you upload the deal for the full campaign period.
What type of deal could be most effective?
Tourism New Zealand has found that visitors to newzealand.com click through to some types of deals more than others. The deals by type are listed in order of best performance below:
You are welcome to develop an appealing deal with another tourism business in your region and create a package deal. For example, a combined accommodation and activity offer. This can be submitted for each participating business in the TBD.
How many deals can be submitted?
You can submit up to five deals per TNZ campaign. This is to be fair to smaller businesses, in display on newzealand.com Smaller businesses generally submit one or two deals.
A new campaign opportunity will be offered every quarter so that allows you up to 20 campaign deals a year.
There is no limit on the number of general deals that can be submitted. Select "none" in the campaign drop down menu in this case. However, deals need to be distinct from each other.
The limit of five deals per campaign also applies to national accommodation, activity and tour companies.
Will previously uploaded deals show for a campaign on newzealand.com?
There are two types of deals:
1. Campaign deals
2. Non campaign-specific deals
For #1, please submit new and relevant deals to each campaign. Please make sure you select the relevant campaign in the drop-down box in the Tourism Business Database (shown only once New Zealand or Australia markets are selected). If you have submitted a deal for a campaign that is currently live e.g. the Winter campaign, these deals will remain until the deal end date.
For #2, if you have other, non-campaign specific deals, please upload without a campaign selected and they will show in appropriate areas of newzealand.com.
Which image will show for the campaign deal?
Please choose an image that showcases your deal as best as possible.
By default, the first image of your product listing will display on the campaign deal. However, if this is not preferred, you may upload a different image during the deal submission process.
Please submit an image without text or a logo on the image as these can be cropped when deals are viewed at different desktop and mobile device sizes.
Will the deal feature on other websites (e.g. RTOs) via the Tourism Business Database API?
A significant number of New Zealand Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) have an API Agreement with Tourism New Zealand to syndicate Tourism Business Database listings and deliver them to their own websites.
Some of these also publish the deals in addition to listings. Any campaign deal will appear among other current deals on the RTO sites unless the RTO and a 3rd party has excluded them.
These are the current and upcoming campaigns, and activity that we encourage you to participate in:
Tourism New Zealand is launching spring campaign activity in both New Zealand and Australia, and you can submit one deal to participate in both markets' activity.
Both markets will be targeting key demographics and mindsets that are considering travel this spring.
To participate in both of these markets, you are invited to submit a spring deal, dated from 1 August to 31 October 2022 to the Tourism Business Database.
How to load a spring campaign deal to newzealand.com for both markets
Go to your Business in the Tourism Business Database. Click on Manage Business, then Manage Product listing and Add a new deal.
Tick the New Zealand and Australia market box. Do not tick any other market box, as deals relevant to this upcoming spring will not necessarily be relevant to long haul markets, due to booking periods being further in advance. To submit a more generic deal, relevant to long haul markets, please review the Tourism Business Database user guides(opens in new window).
Under the specific campaign drop down menu choose 'Domestic & Australia: Spring (Aug to Oct)'
Important note on currencies for deals
Deals for New Zealand based operators are usually in NZD currency.
However, you do have the option of creating deals in other currencies (such as AUD) to better suit the target market and audience.
If you would like to add a deal for the Australian market with an AUD price, please upload two separate deals, one with Australia only selected as the market to enable the AUD option and then one for New Zealand for NZD.
BOTH deals created will need to have the campaign tag: 'Domestic & Australia: Spring (Aug to Oct)'.
Tourism New Zealand has launched a winter campaign in both the Domestic and Australian Market, and you can submit one deal to participate in both.
The Domestic winter campaign will challenge the perception that winter is too cold to be out and about. The campaign, which will run from mid-May until the end of July will reposition winter as the hottest season of them all, inspiring Kiwis to embrace all tourism experiences this winter. 'Winter, it's so hot right now!'
Similarly, Australia's winter campaign execution runs from 13th April highlight New Zealand's vast experiences. The campaign, which will run until the end of June will encourage Australian travellers to consider and plan a trip to New Zealand this winter. Following the border reopening, campaign messaging will transition to Stop Dreaming About New Zealand and Go.
To participate in both of these campaigns, you are invited to submit a winter deal, dated from Today to 31st July to the Tourism Business Database (TBD).
How to load a winter campaign deal to newzealand.com for both markets
Go to your Business in the Tourism Business Database. Click on Manage Business, then Manage Product Listing and Add a new deal.

Under the specific campaign drop down menu choose 'Domestic & Australia: Winter campaigns'
In August, the domestic market team will launch a campaign to actively target families ahead of the spring school holidays. The aim of the campaign activity is to provide inspiration, holiday ideas and travel deals that encourage families to plan and book. After the campaign period Tourism New Zealand will continue to feature family packages and pricing on newzealand.com and drive visitors to this area of the site.
Therefore, Tourism New Zealand invites operators to complement our campaign activity by uploading family friendly packages and pricing during the campaign period, and throughout the year.
As this is a trial (similar to tourism gift vouchers below), the deals screen in the Tourism Business Database will be used to load family-friendly pricing & packages. To avoid confusion, it is worth noting unlike ‘normal’ deals, the submission of family packages and pricing does not necessarily need to be a discount or special offer (just a family price is sufficient, but special offers do often get higher engagement and referrals).
Criteria for family friendly packages or pricing submissions are reviewed by Tourism New Zealand after they have been submitted. In order for a family package or price (loaded as a deal) to be accepted it must be a family-specific offering.
Here are a few examples of what a good family package/price could look like:
As noted above, the submission of family packages and pricing via the Deal screen in the Tourism Business Database does not necessarily need to be a discount or special offer like normal Deals.
Note, Family packages or pricing submitted will show on the relevant family related pages on newzealand.com Please create additional deals for a campaign or without a campaign tag for wider reach on newzealand.com
Why TNZ would decline a submitted family package or price?
Here are some reasons why a family deal may be declined. Following these tips will help you submit a valid deal the first time:

The campaign delivered over 28,000 referrals to tourism businesses, via newzealand.com and various media platforms. As a result, we have decided to retain the capability to feature gift vouchers on newzealand.com for the foreseeable future, enabling Tourism New Zealand to consider marketing activity at key retail gifting moments i.e., Mother’s Day.
Note for operators that have already submitted gift vouchers in 2021:
The deal end date for all gift vouchers submitted in 2021 has been extended until 31 December 2022.
If you do not wish your gift voucher information to remain published on the gift voucher hub throughout 2022, please log into the Tourism Business Database and unpublish the deal.

Frequently asked questions
Does the gift voucher need to be a deal or special offer?
No, we are temporarily using the Add a deal screen to enable you to submit gift voucher information. The gift voucher pricing does not need to be a discount on your standard gift voucher or product pricing.
Does the gift voucher need to be exclusive to Christmas?
No, the gift voucher can be your standard, all year-round gift voucher offering.
Can a business submit a gift voucher and a summer deal?
Yes, we recommend submitting both to maximise referrals.
Do I submit a gift voucher attached to a Product Listing or a Business Listing?
Product Listing. If your business sells a dollar value gift voucher that can be redeemed on any of the experiences that you offer, attach it to the most relevant Product Listing that you have.
If your business sells gift vouchers that are specific to the experiences, you can upload multiple, and attach each gift voucher to the associated Product Listing.
What will happen after the 25 December?
We will review the performance of gift vouchers on newzealand.com and make the decision to keep the activity running or remove all gift vouchers from newzealand.com. Tourism New Zealand will communicate this to you, via a Tourism Business Database email communication after the campaign has ended.
