Doing the Coromandel in style on the back of a Harley is not what most folk in their mid seventies would do. But they are not our Joan from the Cotswalds in the UK.
Despite some apprehension and nerves there was real excitement looking forward to the experience with Bularangi Harley Tours .
After being fitted out with the appropriate jacket and helmet fitted to size from Baz Howie the owner of Bularangi Harley Tours Joan was almost ready to go - final safety instructions and advice on where to put your feet, hold to hold on and how to follow him when he went around corners was shared with Joan who advised she had not been on a motor bike for nearly 50 years. Then they were off with a roar.
They headed up the Coromandel to Whangamata where they met up with another couple who were doing the Coro loop and then headed further north where they stopped for lunch just outside of Coromandel town at the Mussle kitchen. Joan said the mussles were very tasty - she thoroughly enjoyed them..
Then it was back on the bike heading down the coast back to Waihi to see the Martha gold mine in Waihi - formerly Martha Hill
