From deserted beaches to vineyards, charming villages, marine reserves, farmers markets and music events, the Matakana Coast is waiting to be explored

Take a wander along one of the many sandy beaches close by, or grab your snorkel and head down to New Zealand's first marine reserve, Goat Island to get up close to the amazing marine life. Or head along to the weekly Farmers Market where local growers and producers have heaping stalls of fresh fruit and vegetables, organic produce, preserves, pickles, olive oils, breads, chocolate, specialty meats and so much more.

The Matakana Coast may be a relatively new wine-growing region, but over recent years the region has turned out several award-winning wines, and the number of vineyards in the area has grown dramatically. Ascension Wine Estate has an open cellar door every day, as does Brick Bay Wines. Whilst at Brick Bay make sure you check out the unique outdoor gallery and sculpture trail, which winds its way through the stunning landscape.

For those looking for a more out-door active experience there are plenty activities including, the Omaha beach Gold Club, boat trips that explore the area surrounding Kawau Bay, helicopter tours, Glass bottom boat tours and Horse riding along the stunning Pakiri beach.
Matakana has plenty of great different enjoyable activities to offer visitors, along with the beautiful scenery of the Matakana Coast.
