About

No trip to the Otago Peninsula is complete without visiting the world’s only mainland royal albatross colony in the Southern Hemisphere. Around 250 Northern royal albatross, with wingspans up to 3 metres, breed at Taiaroa Head. Many were raised by Lyndon, our co-founder and former ranger with decades of experience. Departing from central Dunedin, the tour takes you along scenic back roads, spotting shorebirds en route. At the Royal Albatross Centre, enjoy a guided one-hour tour to see nesting albatross and learn about these incredible seabirds. In spring and summer, the headland teems with wildlife, including the chance to spot fur seals. Our expert local guides make this a truly special experience.
