There are a variety of walks in the Lake Wanaka region ranging from short, easy tracks to multi-day hiking adventures.
Nestled below the towering mountains of the Southern Alps, Lake Wanaka is a stunning region of snow-capped peaks, long river valleys and lush native forest, anchored by its tranquil, far-reaching lake. Exploring by foot is the way to go. Try the Mount Iron Track – near the centre of town, this half hour walk ascends for 250 metres to reach amazing, 360 views. Or discover hidden gems like the Rob Roy Glacier Track which leads you through epic scenery of waterfalls, glaciers and sheer rock cliffs.
The Outlet Track is another popular walk that follows the Clutha River banks offering shade in summer, shelter in winter. On this easy walk you can relax, stroll along and enjoy the bright colours of the Central Otago landscape.
