Arthur's Pass: Filled with beech forest and spectacular waterfalls, there are many great walking and biking trails in the area to explore. Be sure to walk the Devils Punchbowl, which is a one hour trip to see the 131 metre waterfall from the viewing platform at the base. The waterfall is the tallest in the area and well worth the trip to see the snow-fed waters throughout the year.
Kaikoura: The marine wildlife and coastline is filled with whales, seals, dolphins, and albatross making it a top destination to view New Zealand’s wildlife. Operators offer tours whale watching, swimming with dolphins and kayaking to see the seals. Be sure treat yourself to the delicious crayfish Kaikoura is famous for.
Akaroa: The quaint French town is filled with historic buildings and great French food. There are many great walks around the harbour and cruises to see the dolphins and seals of the area. Watch out for the seagulls as they love to steal chips from anywhere they can get them!
Hanmer Springs: Plan a weekend to relax and unwind in the alpine forest setting. The Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa is a must stop destination and the chocolate indulgence facial is a must for any chocolate lover. There are also many walking and biking trails through the forest to enjoy that suit all abilities.
- Lake Tekapo: Located in the centre of the South Island the stunning turquoise colour of the lake and mountain activities provides a great holiday destination. While in the Mackenzie region you can go fishing, skiing/snowboarding, and ice skating in the winter to enjoy the best the region has to offer.
