Water Activities

Wherever you are in New Zealand, you are close to water. From pounding surf beaches to crystal-clear alpine lakes, there’s a pristine setting for every water activity, and a water activity to delight every traveler.

There’s nothing like a relaxing boat cruise or sailing trip to experience the true beauty of New Zealand’s coast. For up and close marinelife, book yourself in for whale watching or swimming with dolphins. Our marine reserves are teeming with life, perfect for diving and snorkelling.

For a bit of a thrill, try jet-boating on one of our many lakes and rivers. Or what about rafting and kayaking? New Zealand has world class rapids, ranging from gentle beginner to pure adreanalin. And for something really different, have a go at black water rafting through the cave systems of Waitomo.

Fishing
is a national passtime here; there’s big game fishing out at sea and freshwater fishing inland. Either way you’ll have fresh fish for tea and a smile on your face. Surfing is also very popular and no wonder – we have 6,000km of uncrowded coastline with barrells to burn!
