One of the leading designers in the world, Farr, an ex-pat New Zealander now living in Washington DC, has been involved with the America's Cup for the last 16 years.

'The boats he designed last time for Young America, which were bought by Prada after the Cup, have never been beaten by Prada's Luna Rossa boats in training.'

Oracle BMW Racing launched it’s two new sailboats, USA-71 and USA-76, on July 12 2002.
On and off the water, it has been a tumultuous run-up to the Louis Vuitton Cup by the big-budget team, ORACLE BMW Racing.

Twice, their practice yachts have lost their keels and almost sunk on the Hauraki Gulf. There's been a broken mast. And two of the world's most outstanding America's Cup sailors, Chris Dickson and Paul Cayard, have been controversially moved off the boats into administration roles.

But with the world's ninth richest man, Larry Ellison, in control, there is no danger of this team going broke before racing begins. Ellison has plans to drive his race boat during the Louis Vuitton Cup, but it is uncertain just who will be skipper of the syndicate.

One of Oracle's helmsmen, US Virgin Islands sailor Peter Holmberg, has been the hottest match racing skipper on the world circuit in 2002, so his chances must be strong.

By early June, the sailors will be presented with their long-awaited gift - the first of ORACLE BMW Racing's two new-generation racing boats, USA-71. Boat No 2, USA-76, won't be too far behind.
