The Alinghi headquarters stretch across two bases on Auckland's Syndicate Row, the home of the cup teams. The huge silver shed known as 'The Dream Box' is open to the public and people can wander around the base for free, watching SUI-64 go on and off the dock.

Some of the best brains in America's Cup history belong to this syndicate - many of them controversially jumping ship from Team New Zealand. Skipper Russell Coutts and tactician Brad Butterworth have joined forces with billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli to launch a serious $US55 million challenge.

Alinghi spent a lot of time training, and racing the other challengers, on Auckland's Hauraki Gulf during the 2001- 2002 summer, in the build up to the Louis Vuitton Challengers Series. This training obviously paid off, as they then went on to win the Louis Vuitton Cup and qualify for the America's Cup, defeating Oracle BMW Racing in the final series. Alinghi won the final series with an overall score of 5-1.
