'Victory Challenge's new boat, SWE-63, appears to be very fast and has beaten Team New Zealand's 2000 boats in training,' says Bruno Troublé of Louis Vuitton.

Örn, or SWE-63, was the first new boat in the 2003 generation of America's Cup yachts. The Swedish Victory Challenge spent the Southern Hemisphere summer sailing their proud new yacht on the Hauraki Gulf, impressing spectators and rivals alike.

Örn (Swedish for The Eagle) sailed in the international regatta with Team New Zealand, but the Swedes did not participate against the other challengers in the CORM regatta.

Victory Challenge was headed by the late Swedish media mogul Jan Stenbeck, and has entered the ever-growing Scandinavian yachting scene into the America's Cup. Sadly, Jan Stenbeck passed away on the 19th of August this year, the team was informed just hours after the second boat, Orm (SWE 73) was to be launched in Auckland.

Stenbeck went all-out to launch a serious challenge, buying Team New Zealand's successful 1995 boat NZL38 for his practice yacht. The team spent a season on the Mediterranean sailing alongside the Le Defi Areva and Alinghi crews before venturing downunder.

Örn (SWE-63) was flown into Auckland in the belly of an Antonov and the Swedes started sailing Örn in mid December 2001. They have sailed with the second boat, Örn (SWE-73), since the day after Jan Stenbecks passed away, with the wish to fulfill his dreams and visions.
