For centuries, people have been fascinated by the romance of the South Seas - a paradise far away from civilization. But legends also tell of voodoo, cannibalism, strange gods and a proud, fearless people. This series traces its riveting 3,500-year-old natural history.


 
 

For 1,000 years, New Zealand had been the home of the Maori. Their Polynesian ancestors had come from far away tropical islands and tamed this wild southern land. But the splendid isolation of these proud people was soon to end.
