The Karori Sanctuary, only 3 kms from central Wellington, is home to wildlife and native plants.
The Karori Wildlife Sanctuary, where endangered native birds are being re-introduced into 252 hectares of regenerating forest, is one of the city's natural treasures.
Nearby is Wellington's purpose built mountain bike trails at Makara Peak, with 250 hectares of variable terrain catering for all levels of adventure. Aside from mountain biking there are many other outdoor activities including, sailing, bushwalking, guided tours and much more.

Wellington's rugged South Coast is another, best visited with Seal Coast Safari which takes 4WD trips along the Coast to see the New Zealand fur seal colony. One of the most beautiful views of Wellington is from the Botanic Gardens - only a five minute ride from Downtown aboard the historic Cable Car. From there, Te Papa, can be seen sitting on Wellington's magnificent waterfront. New Zealand's national museum, Te Papa tells the fascinating story of New Zealand and her people.

If Arts and Culture is your thing Wellington is a magnet for creative thinkers. The city is home to the country's most significant arts organisations, including the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the NBR New Zealand Opera. It hosts the renowned New Zealand International Arts Festival and the Montana World of WearableArt Awards held each September, as well as a number of professional theatres. The Downtown area has art galleries, as well as public art installations, providing a peak into the local arts scene.
