When greeted in Maori with the words 'Kia Ora', you are literally being asked the state of your physical and spiritual health.

In many parts of New Zealand, products based on traditional Maori rongoa or healing agents are now finding their way into the consumer market. In some regions, visitors can also gain access to people with this knowledge, and experience the 'natural healing world' of the Maori. Gathering and preparation techniques of native plants and herbs are demonstrated to the visitor just as information was passed down from one generation to the next in former times.

To take advantage of this opportunity, you would normally need to stay with a recognised practitioner for two-three days.
