Tourism New Zealand hosted the 8th annual New Zealand Tourism Awards in London on 8 May 2008 with eight awards recognising excellence in marketing New Zealand by travel operators from the United Kingdom and Ireland.
These awards continue to set the benchmark for best practice marketing of New Zealand in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The awards were presented by Gregg Anderson, Tourism New Zealand Regional Manager UK & Europe, and travel expert Simon Calder.

Winner: Audley Travel
Audley Travel has a remarkable and growing range of accomodation, activities and transport available in New Zealand. They provide a great example of tailoring New Zealand holidays specifically to the traveller. Rigorous staff training and on-going educational opportunities are reflected in the detailed knowledge of each country specialist, contributing to high customer satisfaction levels and staff retention. Highly Commended: Discover the World The judges described Tailor Made Travel’s brochure as ‘beautiful’ and containing inspirational copy and contemporary imagery. Experiential images dominate throughout the brochure and support the wide range of accomodation, activities and transport that New Zealand has to offer. The ‘bespoke’ nature of Tailor Made Travel’s offerings are conveyed strongly in the brochure.
Best New Zealand Trade Brochure
Winner: Travel 2 Travel 2’s brochure is a fantastic selling resource for the trade. The logical layout provides easy navigation through the brochure. It uses strong motivational copy throughout and features good regional coverage.
Best New Zealand Online Content
Winner: Audley Travel Since re-launching their website in January this year with new design, structure and content, Audley Travel has welcomed many more people to their site and has received noticeably more booking enquiries. The website features a wide and enticing range of what is available in New Zealand and was considered by the judges to be an in-depth extension of their brochure. The website features regional information and integrates the experiences of Audley’s own staff through articles, imagery and travel tips to inspire travel to the destination. They are also committed to continually improving the visitor experiences with a number of enhancements planned.
Best New Zealand Consumer Marketing Campaign
Winner: Scenic Tours
Scenic Tours’ marketing campaign included extensive use of well chosen media outlets, and clear communication to their market through an excellent range of high quality sales pieces that has seen them further establish themselves as an exceptional tour operator within the UK.
Best New Zealand Product Development
Winner: Scenic Tours Scenic Tours used the findings of consumer and industry research to identify potential markets and subsequently completely repackaged their New Zealand escorted touring holiday products. They have simplified the proposition for customers and developed an excellent range of supporting sales tools.
Best New Zealand Retail Trade Programme
Winner: STA Travel The judges commended STA Travel on a formidably wide-ranging campaign, well executed across a variety of mediums including travel talks, podcasts, emails and postcards. STA Travel demonstrated a strong understanding of their market and communicated effectively with them through engaging creative and appealing visuals.
Best Responsible Tourism Operator to New Zealand
Winner: Audley Travel
Audley Travel’s attention to all areas of tourism operator responsibility is clearly demonstrated and actioned through all parts of the business. They display a strong endorsement of Qualmark and careful selection of NZ product. They pass their values on to each customer, providing a Travellers Code of Conduct. Audley’s principles are clearly articulated to all staff and initiatives are available for participation. The company displays an engrained philosophy of ‘bringing responsible tourism to life’.
