First Aid Kit

It's a good idea to pack a basic first-aid kit for your trip, particularly if you plan to go hiking, camping or to remote parts of the country. Various commercial kits are available, or you can make up your own using a zip-lock bag. The following is a useful and portable selection:

• Antihistamine
• Rehydration mixture
• Calamine lotion or aloe vera
• Antifungal cream or powder
• Antiseptic
• Bandages, Band-aids and dressings
• Water purification tablets or iodine
• Scissors, tweezers and a thermometer
• Aspirin or paracetamol
• Loperamide or diphenoxylate (blockers for diarrhoea)
• Anti-nausea or travel sickness medication
• Insect repellent, sunscreen and lip balm
