As New Zealand’s largest population centre, Auckland promises to keep you busy and stimulated. You can mix urban pleasures with marine adventures.

Towns

Great Barrier Island is a large island with a small population. The forests, beaches and bays provide scope for all kinds of wilderness adventures.
Helensville is a friendly place for a hot swim and a refreshment stop, or stay a while and use the town as a base for exploring the local countryside.
A day trip to Kawau Island can include a look through Governor Grey’s mansion house, forest walks to old copper mines and a swim at the beach.
From downtown Auckland you can take a day trip to Motuihe Island, where there’s a choice of excellent beaches and several interesting walks.

Catch a ferry to Waiheke and experience the island’s pleasure-loving lifestyle. Discover vineyards, beaches, art galleries and exclusive lodges.
Warkworth acts as a gateway to the beach and wine areas to the east. Goat Island, Tawharanui and Matakana are all within easy reach from here.
You’ll find Wellsford where the Northland and Auckland regions merge. Main street restaurants offer plenty of choice for passing travellers.
