Getting to and from Eastland

By Road

Eastland is accessed from State Highway 2. Driving distances and times are as follows:

  • Auckland 504km (6 hours)
  • Tauranga 298km (4 hours)
  • Rotorua 287km (3.5 hours)
  • Napier 216km (3.5 hours)
  • Palmerston North 394km (5 hours)
  • Wellington 550km (7 hours)

Intercity Coachline offers a daily bus service from Auckland and Wellington, stopping at various towns and cities along the way.

By Air

Flying is the quickest way to reach Eastland.

  • From Auckland, Gisborne is only 1 hour away - there are seven flights every day
  • Wellington to Gisborne takes just over an hour, and there are five flights a day
  • Flights leave Rotorua for Gisborne three times a day - flying time is 2 hours

Getting around Eastland

Rental cars are available from Gisborne.

Both Kiwi Trails and Kiwi Experience offer a return trip from Rotorua around the East Coast to Gisborne.

Two courier companies work State Highway 35. Cooks Couriers and Polly's Passenger Courier take passengers between Gisborne, Hicks Bay and Opotiki. There are also two shuttles that meet Intercity buses at Wairoa to transport visitors to Lake Waikaremoana.
