Whether you arrive in Nelson by air or by road, the approach is breathtaking.
Looking down from a domestic flight, you'll see the magnificence of the Marlborough
Sounds and the big blue of Tasman Bay. If you catch the Cook Strait ferry to Picton,
you'll enjoy a closer view of the sounds. The road between Picton and Nelson is

Getting to and from Nelson
By Road
Nelson Region is well serviced by coaches travelling to and from the region. Self-drive travellers who cross Cook Strait on the vehicular ferry can choose to drive to Nelson via Blenheim or along the very scenic Queen Charlotte Drive.
By Air
Nelson city is the fourth busiest airport in New Zealand. Two airlines run regular air services to and from Nelson airport. Motueka and Takaka airfields are bases for charter services and scenic flights.

There are regular bus services from Nelson city to the entrance points of Abel Tasman National Park. Water taxis are available to take you into the park.
