Lake Karapiro is a man-made lake on the Waikato River, created in 1947 to store water for the Karapiro Power Station. It is an important training and competition venue for rowing, canoeing, sailing and water skiing. Centre of the action is Lake Karapiro Domain, which has a camping and pursuits centre where you’ll find camping facilities various kinds of accommodation. Corporate groups often use the lake’s facilities for team building exercises. There are several walking tracks nearby.
