The West Coast is a paradise for people who love the outdoors. Extreme adventure seekers can try caving, rafting, canoeing, kayaking and surfing. Easier adventures include jet boating, glacier walks, scenic flights, mountain biking, horse treks, fishing and gold panning. And wherever you go, there are walks - long, medium and short.

DURING YOUR VISIT

Spring is whitebait season. Whitebait is the name given to three species of small fish. This West Coast delicacy is best enjoyed as a fritter or omelette. On the road to Haast Pass the waterfalls are rushing, full to the brim with spring rain. The brown trout are biting on Lake Brunner – wade in and hook some. Cherry blossom adds to the charm of Ross, an old mining town where you can walk through historic goldfields.
