Overview

This itinerary includes some of the most memorable west coast experiences. You’ll discover wild deserted beaches with the Tasman Sea endlessly rolling white-capped and powerful onto the shore. Steep ranges rise inland from the coast, covered in lush native forest. Countless rivers run to the sea, and forest walks depart from the roadside at regular intervals. The Punakaiki rocks, Cape Foulwind seal colony, and the limestone arches and honeycomb caves near Karamea are natural highlights that will have you reaching for your camera. The scenic Buller Gorge leads inland towards charming historic Reefton. And the mighty Grey River carves a route back to your starting point on the coast.
