Self drive the length of New Zealand with this amazing summer special! Start in Queenstown and drive north through Mt Cook, Christchurch, Kaikoura, Wellington, Rotorua and Auckland. Travel from the middle of the Southern Alps across the Canterbury plains and along the rugged New Zealand coast. Board the ferry across Cook Strait to the capital city and north past volcanos to New Zealand's thermal wonderland. Finish your journey in Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, for your flight home. DAY 1 ARRIVE IN QUEENSTOWN Pick up your rental car at the airport. Queenstown is an exhilarating, year round, alpine resort, perfect for adventurers and leisure seekers alike, nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, overlooked by the majestic Remarkables Mountains. DAY 2 & 3 QUEENSTOWN The resort boasts a range of activities second to none, whether it is adventure, 4WD tours to the stunning landscape, wine tours, day walks, water activities, you name it. We highly recommend a day trip to Milford Sound. DAY 4 QUEENSTOWN TO CHRISTCHURCH VIA MT COOK The vineyards of Central Otago area are the first temptation on your journey. Further on, weather permitting, you can obtain views of the Southern Alps, (or perhaps detour to Mt Cook Village) while Lake Tekapo offers great vistas from the famous Church of the Good Shepherd. Continue over the rolling farmlands to Christchurch. DAY 5 CHRISTCHURCH Christchurch, “the garden city”, is largest city in the South Island and perhaps the most ‘English’ of them all. It has a vibrant, art and culture scene and several parks dotted throughout the city easily visited on foot. Alternatively enjoy a day tour on the Tranzalpine train to Arthur’s Pass National Park. DAY 6 CHRISTCHURCH TO KAIKOURA The township of Kaikoura is located on a rocky peninsula, protruding from farmland beneath the mountains. The coast off Kaikoura is one of the few places in the world where you can see huge sperm whales undisturbed in their natural habitat. We recommend a whale watching excursion by boat or air to see these enormous creatures. DAY 7 KAIKOURA TO WELLINGTON Make your way to the picturesque seaside village of Picton through the world renowned wine country of Marlborough. From Picton, the scenic ferry ride through the sounds and across the Cook Strait will take you to Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. DAY 8 WELLINGTON Wellington, “the harbour city” boasts an eclectic environment: motorways and narrow city streets, Victorian houses built on steep hillsides and modern office an department blocks, areas of dense bush and exposed rocky coasts, all within a few kilometres of each other. We suggest a visit to Te Papa Museum, enjoy views from Mt Victoria or the cable car terminus, and Zealandia wildlife sanctuary. DAY 9 WELLINGTON TO ROTORUA On the way to Rotorua you will drive via the Tongariro National Park and Lake Taupo. Visit the Huka Falls and perhaps even dare the jetboat ride to the falls. Rotorua is situated on the central North Island volcanic plateau, south-western shoreline of Lake Rotorua, at the centre of NZ’s thermal region and the North Island’s lakes district. DAY 10 ROTORUA Enjoy some of the many activities Rotorua has to offer. There is an abundance of adrenalin activities to choose from; wildlife parks and farm shows; Maori cultural shows; a variety of parks showcasing the thermal activity; and spas to enjoy the mineral waters. DAY 11 ROTORUA TO AUCKLAND VIA WAITOMO We recommend you stop in Waitomo on your way to Auckland. The tour of Waitomo Caves will take you through over 250 metres of stunning underground scenery and on a boat trip along an underground stream through the Glow-worm Grotto. DAY 12 DEPART AUCKLAND Auckland sprawls across an 11km wide volcanic isthmus separating two natural harbours, is the largest city in New Zealand, and is recognised as having the largest concentration of Polynesian people in the world. Stroll around the Viaduct Harbour, enjoy the views from the Skytower, or on a Bridge Walk. Take a harbour sail or cruise to one of the islands of the Hauraki Gulf, or enjoy a day among the vineyards or one of the many local beaches. Drop your rental car at the airport at the end of your holiday. Conditions of salePrice is subject to availability at time of booking.
