When visiting the Waikato region and especially the Matamata-Piako Disctrict, one can’t help but notice the major role dairy plays for its economy: rolling hills and lush, green pastures, big herds of cows and giant dairy factories dotted along the road.

Situated at the foot of the Kaimai Ranges, the Kaimai Cheese Company is a specialty cheese factory that also houses a café and store. From behind large glass windows, you can see the entire cheese making process. Don’t forget to indulge in some cheese tasting!
