The Coromandel is home to two spectacular marine reserves, popular for diving and snokelling.

Off the coast of Waihi Beach lies Tuhua (Mayor Island), a dormant volcano with a marine reserve off its northern end. More than 60 species of fish are found at the many excellent dive sites, which include Two Fathom Reef and Orongatea Bay. Further up The Coromandel peninsula and off the coast of Hahei Beach is the Cathedral Cove marine reserve, enjoyed by divers for its wonderful sponge gardens and reef systems.
