  • Queenstown region, Episode 5: Alpine grandeur & Middle-earth

From majestic mountains to golden plains, locations throughout the Queenstown region played the mythical world of Middle-earth on the big screen.

Our Kombi Diaries journey comes to an end in the Queenstown region, known not only for its alpine grandeur, food & wine and adventure activities but also famous as a key location to play Middle-earth. Both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies were shot entirely in New Zealand; over 100 locations featured in the films, from Queenstown's Glenorchy and Fiordland in the south to Matamata in the north.
