Nestled below the towering mountains of the Southern Alps, Lake Wanaka is a stunning region of snow-capped peaks, long river valleys, lush native forest and, of course, the beautiful Lake Wanaka itself. One of the best ways to explore is on foot. Choose to climb Mount Iron near the centre of town - a 1-2 hour hike with panoramic river and mountain views.
