The Kepler Track is a 67 kilometre circuit that takes three to four days to complete. It leads you along the shore of Lake Te Anau, up the side of Mount Luxmore, across the tops of the Kepler Mountains, down to the Iris Burn Valley, then along the Shallow Bay shore of Lake Manapouri.

In the hiking world, the Kepler is one of New Zealand's most luxurious wilderness adventures, involving modern huts, gas cookers, comfortable beds and a very high standard of track.

Highlights on this journey include rambling through the rainforest, exploring Luxmore Cave (bring a torch), massive views from the top of Mount Luxmore (1471 metres), waterfalls, encounters with kea (mountain parrots) and walking down the Iris Burn glacial valley.

The Kepler Track begins and ends at the Lake Te Anau control gates. Over the summer months, shuttle buses operate to entry and exit points on the track and a scheduled boat service provides access to Brod Bay.

Most people walk this track in an anti-clockwise direction, allowing a more gradual climb through beech forest to the snow line. Those with limited time, experience or fitness can choose to stay only one night in a hut or do a day walk.
