Stretch your legs for seven kilometres around the coast of New Plymouth
The award-winning New Plymouth Coastal Walkway is a seven kilometre, sea-edge promenade that stretches almost the entire length of the city.

Ideal for walking, running, cycling or skating, the walkway provides a connection between the city and the sea. It runs from the Waiwhakaiho River mouth in the east to Port Taranaki in the west, with numerous pedestrian access points dotted along the way.

If you walk east to west, you'll pass the New Plymouth Golf Club and the Fitzroy Motor Camp. You can visit surf beaches at Fitzroy and East End - all the time watching the ever-changing sea. You have the option of leaving the walkway to climb the Te Henui Walkway.

As you approach the central section of the walkway, you'll notice New Plymouth's iconic Wind Wand and a number of interesting stone carvings. You'll also find the award-winning heritage and information centre Puke Ariki and the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery.

Heading west, the walkway winds past the New Plymouth Aquatic Centre and Kawaroa Park before heading to the port and Ngamotu Beach - a safe swimming beach for the family.
