About

Pompallier Mission - Pioneer Printery and Serious Fun.

Experience this hands-on heritage experience in New Zealand's oldest factory - a beautifully restored traditional French pise de terre (rammed earth) building, once the headquarters of Bishop Pompallier's Catholic mission to Western Oceania, and the only building of its kind in Australasia.

Roll up your sleeves and have a go at tanning leather and printing on a pre-Industrial Revolution printing press. Trained guides provide fascinating insights into the history of the building, and the birth of New Zealand. Great fun for all the family.
