About
Dargaville Museum Te Whare Taonga o Tunatahi has magnificent views of Dargaville and the Northern Wairoa River. Shipping was the main mode of transport in the early pioneers day and the Museum tells the history of the river, the pioneers and local Maori.
The Maritime Hall tells the absorbing stories of the many shipwrecks from our wild West Coast. Exhibits range from the unique 16 meter Pre-European Maori Waka to the masts of Greenpeace ship: the ill fated Rainbow Warrior ship.
The Pioneer area tells life of the Dalmatian Gum-diggers, displayed with a large collection of Kauri Gum, while the Collections Hall collections hold the treasure of the many local and avid collectors including a renown Accordion Collection.
