About

On arrival to the Island you'll be warmly welcomed by local hosts, Rosemarie and Greg Horler of Awarakau Lodge. They have the local contacts to ensure we can responsibly visit the island's historical and natural highlights, accessible only by private land.

Through the week you will visit the many areas of Moriori, Māori and European historic significance. You’ll hear stories from your local guides, while visiting highlights such as the statue of Tommy Solomon, the last full-blooded Moriori, a visit to the Stone Cottage at Maunganui and the dendroglyph grove (tree carvings), a place of great spiritual significance for the Moriori.

There is also a chance for an optional day trip to Pitt Island.
