Travel through the Taieri Gorge on a five-hour heritage rail journey departing from the Dunedin Railway Station. Following a historic line accessible only by rail, the route winds into landscapes shaped by time, crossing century-old viaducts and passing through 10 hand-carved tunnels. Along the way, travel over more than 12 bridges and viaducts, including the Wingatui Viaduct, the largest wrought iron structure in the Southern Hemisphere. At Deep Stream, step onto the century-old viaduct and watch the train cross the gorge toward you. Onboard storytellers trace the history of the line through the people, places, and engineering that shaped it. Available as a one-way or return journey between Dunedin and Pukerangi.
