About

From bare land to bottle and beyond. We are Mark & Sophie McGill owners and winemakers of Abel. We are focused on growing and making Chardonnay and Cider. We searched for the perfect piece of land, planted it, nursed the vines, built a winery and now we bottle Chardonnay from those vines we planted right here in our very own winery. If you wish to learn about wine then a visit to our farm will give you a fully immersive wine growing, making and tasting experience. The unique clay soils of the Moutere Valley are found nowhere else in New Zealand. Here at Abel we make Chardonnay how we like to drink it, with freshness, fruit purity and energy. New Zealand's best cider also awaits you, it's bone dry, delicious and made right here by us too.
