Season runs mid-June to late October. Four areas near Wānaka: Treble Cone, Cardrona, The Remarkables and Ohau, each with different aspects and snow. Your guide picks the venue each day using real-time weather and avalanche data, so we rarely cancel. Jun–Jul: cold powder. Aug: deep stable snow. Sep–Oct: spring corn snow. All abilities welcome. Full refund only when conditions will grossly affect the day's outcome and no alternative date is available.
Non-refundable 20% deposit required. Trips under $1,000 NZD: full payment at booking. Over $1,000: balance due 60 days before departure. Bookings within 60 days require full payment. Cancellation refunds: 60+ days before — full refund less deposit 59–30 days — 50% of trip cost Under 30 days — no refund. No refund if cancelled or cut short once underway due to fitness, injury, illness or unforeseen events. Rescheduling subject to availability. Trip cancellation insurance recommended.
Peak Experience offers guided backcountry ski touring from Wānaka, in the heart of New Zealand's Southern Alps. Our International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations (IFMGA) and New Zealand Mountain Guides Association (NZMGA) qualified mountain guides take you into four mountain areas: Treble Cone, Cardrona, The Remarkables and Ohau - each with different aspects, elevation and snow. Your guide selects the best venue each day based on weather, avalanche conditions and snowpack. This flexibility means we rarely cancel and every trip feels different. All levels welcome, from first-time backcountry skiers to experienced tourers seeking steep couloirs. A typical day runs 8 hours with 2–4 runs and 600–1,200 metres of vertical gain.
