Enjoy remote and unique alpine landscapes with views of New Zealand's highest peaks and across the Mackenzie Basin with Lake Tekapo, renowned for its star-gazing and clear skies, and part of an International Dark Sky Reserve. Each 8-bunk hut is equipped with sleeping bags and some non-perishable food, which reduces pack weight. One hut even has a hot tub - ideal for lying back and admiring the Milky Way. This trek crosses untracked, uneven rocky terrain, so good balance and a head for heights are needed. Previous trekking experience essential. Early season (November-December) when there is still plenty of snow, snowshoes and/or crampons may be needed, which Alpine Recreation provides. 3 or 4 days.
