Cruise into the heart of the National Park to walk the most varied section of the Coastal Track. Optional side trip to Cleopatra's Pool.

Cruise into the heart of Abel Tasman National Park to disembark at idyllic Medlands Beach. From here, the coastal track weaves through sunny groves of Manuka and fern between breathtaking views of the granite coast and lush gullies of mature forest, to reach tranquil forest pools and long golden sand beaches. Cross the rushing Falls River by way of an impressive swing bridge.

Allow an extra 30 minutes to take a short (500m) side track beside a forest stream to visit Cleopatra's Pool. If you are feeling energetic, you can add up to 1.5 hours walking Anchorage - Te Pukatea Bay return.

Useful information

Anchorage Beach has a Department of Conservation hut and camp ground with drinking water, shelter, picnic tables and toilet facilities.

How to get there

Kaiteriteri and Marahau are popular entry points to the Abel Tasman National Park, from which you can jump off to various parts of the Track. Both are approximately 1 hour from Nelson. Allow another hour for the boat journey. 

Wilsons Abel Tasman and Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle have boat  transfers departing from Kaiteriteri. 

Abel Tasman Aqua Taxi and Marahau Water Taxis have boat transfers departing from Marahau.
