About

Due to unforseen circumstances the Whakarewarewa Village is temporarily closed.

Home of the Tuhourangi, Ngati Wahiao (Māori sub-tribes) people and located on a geothermal plateau, Whakarewarewa village is New Zealand’s oldest continuous Maori tourism experience’s pre-dating the world-famous Pink & White Terraces which were eventually destroyed during the fatal eruption of Mt Tarawera in 1886.

One of New Zealand’s most unforgettable cultural experiences, Whakarewarewa – The Living Maori Village offers a Jurassic park-like geothermal landscape and a rejuvenating nature-walk for all ages.
