Follow an ancient Maori trail from Urquharts Bay to Ocean Beach, in Bream Head Scenic Reserve.
Te Whara Track begins sharply with a steep walk to the ridgeline. However, once there, the trail becomes more gentle as you make your way through some of the best coastal forests in the North Island.
At the Te Whara/Bream Head summit, hikers are greeted with panoramic views that stretch from Cape Brett (Motukokako) in the north to Cape Rodney (Tawharanui) in the south. On a clear day, the region's offshore islands litter the skyline. Near the summit are the remains of a WWII radar station.
You can walk this trail in both directions
