We will begin with a scenic drive, winding our way up and over the Crown Range with epic views over Queenstown, past Lake Wanaka and through the Matukituki Valley. From Raspberry Flats it is a short valley walk, crossing the West Matukituki River on a swing bridge before a steady climb up through a small gorge alongside Rob Roy stream and journey through native Beech forest. We are soon rewarded with unobstructed views of the Rob Roy glacier hanging thousands of feet above us as you try to capture its grandeur and tranquility. “These photos don’t quite do it justice. You had to be there.” On our return we will stop in Wanaka and enjoy the lakefront. Distance: 10km return, moderate 3 to 4 hour return hike. Rating: Moderate.
