Gumtree Farmstay is a 850 acre working farm offering hosted B&B plus a separate shepherd's hut. It's less than a 10 minute drive to Ōamaru and the Blue Penguin Colony. We farm bulls, a small flock of sheep and have a menagerie of farm animals.

If staying at The Shepherds Rest a 4pm farm tour can be arranged for an additional fee.
Price for the Ardgowan Room at Gumtree Farmstay includes continental breakfast & 4pm farm tour. A second bedroom with 2 single beds is also available for groups of 4 people. Children over 3 years are welcome in our Hosted accommodation, however it's not suitable for younger children. The Shepherds Rest is Adults Only and self-contained so bring along your own food provisions. Farm Tour is also an optional extra, or just soak in the outdoor bath and enjoy the alpaca & scenery.
No charge if cancelled 7 days prior to booking (less 10% Non-Refundable Deposit). If cancellation made within 3 days of arrival date then a loss of 50% of the total booking price. Cancellation after this incurs a charge of 100% of full rate - minus administration fees. We recommend you have travel insurance.
Stay with locals & experience life on a Kiwi farm. We farm cattle & sheep on 850 acres, approximately 6km from historic Ōamaru. As well as farming bull beef we also have a collection of other farm animals including pet sheep/lambs, alpaca, working dogs, kune kune pigs, chickens, ducks & 2 house cats. We offer 2 types of accommodation. There are a hosted B&B bedrooms in our personal home, with private bathroom/toilet. A delicious continental breakfast & 4pm farm tour are included in your stay. The other option is a Shepherd's Hut which is separate from the house. The Shepherds Hut is self-contained and has a gas heated outdoor bathtub. The farm tour can be purchased as an optional extra. Take time to explore Ōamaru & the Waitaki region.
