1st October to 14th May (inclusive). Those in control of the rail cart must hold a valid NZ driver's licence. Young children are most welcome in the rail carts as long as they are securely strapped into a car seat or booster seat appropriate for their age. Prices quoted are based on twin share, single supplement may apply. Prices are inclusive of GST and all taxes.

Cancellation Policy angle-down

If for any reason you cancel your experience, whilst we are unable to refund the deposit, we will keep it on file so you can use it again if you book another date with us or you can transfer it to another experience. All FWA experiences feature an iconic self-driven rail cart journey on the 142km long historic Stratford-Okahukura Line (SOL). The Republic is our iconic full-day guided rail cart adventure to the unique, self-proclaimed Republic of Whangamōmona. Journey 82km along the line through breathtaking scenery and 20 hand-built tunnels. Traverse impressive hand-made bridges and pass through the forgotten townships of Matiere, Ohura, Tokirima, Haeo and Tangarakau before pulling into Whangamōmona. Includes: Rail-side food and drinks and transfers. Optional extras: Accommodation at the historic Whangamōmona Hotel and/or Forgotten World Motel, next day transfer, vehicle shift. Departs: 7.30am from Taumarunui. Direction can be reversed.
