Our Friends of Ngā Manu (Members) receive $5 discount on their ticket. For the wellbeing of our birds and the enjoyment of other guests - everyone will be asked to observe silence whilst in the kiwi enclosure. This experience is not recommended for children under 7 years. No photography is permitted as this startles the kiwi and spoils the experience for others. Private bookings can be arranged by phone to accommodate large groups and children aged under 7 years on days not usually bookable.
Cancellations made before the commencement time of the tour or experience will incur the following charges (expressed as a percentage of the total invoiced price for the tour or experience): 25% deposit required to secure booking. More than 14 days prior to to commencement no charge. More than 24 hours prior to commencement 25% up to a maximum of $250. 24 hours or less prior to commencement 75% up to a maximum of $250. No show will result in no refund.
The Encounter begins in our Visitor Centre where your guide will give a presentation about kiwi in general and our involvement with the national captive programme. As night falls we’ll escort you to seating in our covered observation area in the outdoor kiwi enclosure. For the next 40 minutes you will be mesmerised as you enter into the world of kiwi and see behaviour which few get to observe. Start time seasonally adjusts with sunset and will be confirmed at the time of your booking.
