About

The Tongariro National Trout Centre is a charitable trust and unique freshwater education destination where nature, conservation and recreation come together. Nestled among native trees and rivers, the Centre features a Museum, Native freshwater Aquarium, a historic trout hatchery and underwater viewing chamber, alongside native birdlife, a spring-fed stream inhabited by magnificent wild trout, and a seasonal kids' fishing pond. Bordering the site is the world-renowned Tongariro River, famous for its fly fishing. Each year, school groups, locals and visitors from around the world come to discover New Zealand's freshwater stories, learn about conservation and connect with nature.
