More about this activity
Tūroa sits on the south western slopes of Mt Ruapehu and is a 25 minute drive up from Ohakune.
Tūroa is one of New Zealand's largest ski areas with the nation’s longest vertical drop at 722m. The High Noon Express' 6 seater chairlift reaches the highest lifted point in New Zealand where you'll enjoy panoramic views of North Island.
It’s cliffs, bowls & volcanic terrain make it feel like you’re out in the winter wilderness, even when you’re skiing or riding within the ski area boundary. Tūroa can be likened to one very large playground. It’s terrain naturally encourages skiers & snowboarders to be playful with one beginners area, plenty of gullies, drops, natural hits, wide trails & world class terrain parks.
Are their shuttles to the ski field? Yes, there are a number of local providers that run regular shuttles from Ohakune to Turoa Base. These can be booked independently of the mountain.
Can I purchase food at the ski area? Yes, you can enjoy a hearty mountain breakfast and latte to fuel the day ahead. And after you’ve hit the slopes, hit the award winningon-mountain cafés and bars(opens in new window)for that great après ski with stunning views across the central North Island.
What type of lessons does the ski area provide?
