The pest eradication programme sees the wide range of plants providing an environment for increasing number of native birds such as tui, bellbird, rifleman, tomtit, fantail, whitehead, silver-eye, grey warbler, kereru and morepork. Shine Falls in the park is spectacular at 68m and is a great place for a picnic (and a swim for the brave). Side trips to Lake Opouahi Kiwi Reserve, Lake Tutira and White Pine Bush can be included in this day trip.
