Nelson Tasman is a spectacular part of New Zealand with idyllic coastal spots waiting to be explored.
When it comes to stunning scenery and sea views, you can’t go past the Abel Tasman Coast Track. One of New Zealand’s Great Walks, it passes through golden beaches and coastal forests, with photo opportunities at every turn. Go for a dip in the water at Onetahuti Beach or visit Tonga Island Marine Reserve.
Nelson Tasman really steps things up with it's bounty of National Parks. Nelson Lakes National Park is spectacular with diverse mountain ranges, remote lakes and an alpine pass for good measure. Choose from a range of walks, short or long, or do a spot of trout fishing at in one of the rivers surrounding Lake Rotorua or Lake Rotoiti.
Kahurangi National Park is home to many treasures, including some of the country’s oldest rocks, strangest plants and rarest birds.
In addition to National Parks, there are all sorts of other delights in the Nelson Tasman region, with freshwater springs containing some of the clearest water ever measured, a 35km long sandspit, the Blue Lake, the boulder bank and the Horoirangi Marine Reserve. Kayak, snorkel or dive around the bays or islands and you might spot one of many water creatures including dolphins, penguins and seals.
