1. Take a stoll along Tahuna Beach and then stop in at one of the cafes for a drink and some great local food, or for the more adventurous give kite surfing, sailing or kayaking a go.

2. Walk or cycle to the Centre of New Zealand. A one and a half hour return walk from the Nelson i-SITE along the Maitai river. On your way back you can stop in at the Queens Gardens and Suter Art gallery.

3. Check out the Nelson Mueseum or go to Founders Heritage Park where you can have lunch and a local beer at the Founders Brewery. On the way you can stop in at the Miyazu gardens especially beautiful in Spring when all the flowering cherry trees are in bloom.

4. Go to the Nelson bead gallery on Hardy St - here you can make a unique peice of jewellery from the 1000's of beads on offer to keep as a momento for yourself or send home as a gift.

5. Try your had at rock climbling at Nelson's Vertical limits - an indoor rock climbing centre, if you want to try the outdoors vertical limits also offers guided tours to some of the best rock climbing areas in the region.

6. Visit Riverside pool - here you can go for a swim at the indoor pool, do some weights or cardio or even hire a mountain bike to ride around town for the day.

7. Visit WOW - The World of Wearable arts and Classic Cars Muesum.

8. Check out the Nelson Cathedral, surrounded by beautiful gardens and then sit on the church steps and watch the hustle of Trafalgar St.

9. Check out the fantastic array of arts and crafts, fresh produce and food stalls at the weekly Saturday Markets in Montgomery Square - Frequented by locals as much as visitors to Nelson.

10. Try one out of the many local beers at the Sprig and Fern Hardy or Milton St or visit the Free house on Collingwood st.
