Auckland for the young at heart

With most people travelling through Auckland on their big New Zealand adventure, be sure to spend some time looking through our largest city!

There really are endless things to do and see when you are visiting Auckland, and it can be quite easy to spend more of your time deciding on what to do than actually doing them! So it's important to plan ahead and do your research in order to make sure you're time in New Zealands big little city is well spent.

My Top 5 Activities For The Young at Heart in Auckland

1. Auckland Art Gallery

The newly developed Art Gallery is a must-see when you're in the city . Centrally located, the space offers a modern setting for it's spectators.
You could spend ours exploring the galleries which are full with local contemporary art as well as an extensive collection of art from overseas.
There is also a sweet little cafe and a nice gift shop, so it's worth making an afternoon out of it.

2. Ferry to Devonport

If you are staying in the city, a 10 minute ferry ride to the North Shore village Devonport is a great way to spend a day. Home to the Royal New Zealand Navy Base, their is a relatively new navy museum just a 15 minute walk along the waterfront accompanied by a popular cafe.

And if you're feeling up to it, next to the museum is North Head, a hill famous for its historical military tunnels and guns, as well as the beautiful 360 degree views of the city.
Devonport also has a lovely collection of local shops and cafes, a perfect setting to spend a sunny afternoon.

3. Brunch at La Cigale French Style Farmers Market

In my opinion a trip to the market is a must on any holiday, and Auckland is full of them. One that I would highly recommend s the weekend market La Cigale.
The stalls are full of authenitc french pastries to test your self-control as well as the usual fresh local produce you would expect from a farmers market. The market became so popular it now opens on Sunday mornings as well as Saturdays, so take your pick.

4. The Auckland Museum

Rich with cultural and historical stories, the Auckland Museum is a popular place to visit for tourists and the locals alike. The surrounding grounds are spectacular and often host local outdoor events and shows.
The museum is located in the heart of Parnell, often called Aucklands "oldest suburb", which is now a stylish collection of high-end shops and cafes. So it's a nice place to wonder around after your visit.

5. Work Your Way Up the Sky Tower

This is of course an obvious tourist attraction to suggest, the Sky Tower being the highest building in the Southern Hemisphere. But asides from the novelty of the building itself, the venue has a lot to offer.

An array of restaurant and bars to choose from, not to mention the most vibrant casino in the country. I recommend spending an evening dining at the Orbit restaurant for a magical experience, where the whole restaurant slowly rotates so that you can enjoy the surrounding view while you enjoy your meal.
