Begin your journey with a beautiful scenic drive along Glenorchy Road. Renowned as “one of the most beautiful drives in the world”, the road hugs the turquoise shores of Lake Wakatipu as it winds through valleys and around mountain peaks.
Start your hike from the trailhead with a gentle climb through pristine native beech and Manuka forest. Keep an eye out for historic gold mining relics as your local guide explains the rich history and folklore of the trail. Keep an eye out for spectacular waterfalls and an ‘ear out’ for the thunderous roar of raging water in the canyon below, as we listen for the distinctive songs of our native birds – tui, kererū (wood pigeon) and bellbirds. Discover hidden water races and old tailings.
